The George and Dragon, Houghton

Our second Wombling adventure took us to the village of Houghton, near Amberley and close to the banks of the river Arun; again and by pure coincidence we traveled a distance of 6.3 miles in around 3.5 hours, stopping for photo’s and a snack on the way. On this occasion we were to be joined by my Mike’s mate Phil, his wife Caroline and one of their friends from Westbourne; all was well until on leaving their house Caroline tripped and fell, causing what was found later that day to be a spiral fracture of the humerus.. ouch!

There was a chill breeze in unsheltered places but once again we were blessed with a beautiful bright sunny day. Although there had been some rain the day before the going was reasonably good as we travelled the chalky downland trails and woodland paths on a much higher elevation than at Ashurst. We succeeded in completing the entire journey as planned and to schedule!

The George & Dragon was a welcome sight at the end of our long journey and we were quickly seated and served in this popular and busy little village pub. Sadly Phil and Caroline had spent the day in A&E so our celebration was somewhat muted as we caught up with details of the damage, even so Mike still looks pretty excited to see that plate of Sunday roast!

Here we are ready to go.. back in a few hours for lunch!

Quit taking photo’s Bungo and let me get stuck into this beef.

Sticky Toffee Pudding with Caramel sauce and Vanilla Ice Cream.. yum!
